Excellent comment, John. As the Church has really emphasized in recent decades, all of us, by virue of our Baptism and Confirmation, are commissioned by Christ to the apostolate, to making the Church "present and fruitful" where we are. That''s in Vatican II''s Lumen Gentium, no. 33, but this also touched upon elsewhere, such as in CCC 900. A sacramental marriage obviously would be ordered to this, but even in non-sacramental marriage the Christian spouse has the right and duty to lovingly evangelize his or her family.

"Through the grace of the sacrament of marriage, parents receive the responsibility and privilege of evangelizing their children."

As a father in a natural (non-sacramental) marriage who is hoping to pass on the faith to my children, I sure hope it is not solely through the grace of the sacrament of marriage. Any advice for those who do not receive the grace of this sacrament?
